Scaredy Dog

Cosmo has an interest for fireworks. Most every 4th or 24th of July, my family sets off fireworks on our street. Cosmo dashes full speed towards the exploding lights and starts to sniff them madly with great curiosity. He will occasionally try and play with the firework with his paw! We always have to tug him away in fear of him getting burned.

For as long as I can remember, Cosmo has had a deathly fear of water. He fireworks and doesn't love water- what kind of lab is he? He is afraid of bathrooms because he understands there is plenty of water coming from inside. He also has a hard time swimming in a lake. Unless we give him a glassful of water at a time, he will vomit it all, so we have to monitor his drinking. As we bring the glass of water to his water bowl, he backs away in fear that we will poor water on him. Even if the glass is empty, he scampers away. Recently, because he slides on the kitchen floors, Cosmo has been afraid to simultaneously stand on the kitchen AND drink out of his water bowl at the same time. That's some scary stuff, man!

Cosmo weighing his options.

Recently moving into a ski town, there's been a couple snow storms and some nasty temperatures below zero that I've encountered. Fortunately, Cosmo loves the snow! He buries his nose into the white powder and frantically eats as much that will fit into his mouth! Sure, he's crazy for snow, but not so much the cold temperatures . . . He's an inside dog, so unless we personally take him outside or he's eating food, Cosmo stays inside. The other night, I got him his dinner and let him outside for a while. About fifteen minutes later, as I went to let him in, he was limping on one leg because his paw was so frozen, and his tail was sticking straight out with hair sticking up! I had him sit on the rug, and he was shaking uncontrollably. I decided to turn the fireplace on and wrap him up in a blanket in front of it. In a matter of ten minutes, he was warmed up and happy again. It was so sad to see him so miserably cold! But I think he appreciated me warming him up. :)

Cosmo bundled up by the fireplace trying to get warm.

I'm thinking these boots would help out his frozen feet when he has to step into the cold!

Cosmo majestically looking into the distance. Sorry for the crotch shot.
